Australia Attacked - Sydney CBD Terror Attack

12th August, 2019

Warning - this news article contains graphic language that may be confronting to you, both in the text, and within the attached video courtesy of 7 news Sydney and posted on Twitter by Andrew Denney.

Another Australian city, and unfortunately another terror attack, this time in Sydney's CBD. Last year in Melbourne's CBD, Hassan Khalif Shire Ali ("Ali") stabbed three people in the Bourke Street Mall resulting in Sisto Malaspina, the co-owner of Pellegrini's Espresso Bar in Melbourne. dying at the scene.

The year before, and again in Melbourne James Gargasoulas drove a car on Bourke Street running down pedestrians killing six and injuring many more.

Today, another lone wolf terrorist attack occurred in Sydney with 20-year-old Mert Nay ("Nay") allegedly stabbing a woman to death in a CBD apartment. Nay was then caught on camera leaving the building and taking a selfie after the attack, and then proceeded to cause havoc on Sydney streets as he stabbed another woman and then threatened to kill others.

What Nay didn't expect however, was an equally determined Australian public who are frankly sick of radical Islamic extremists, and their terrorist acts. Nay was caught on camera by 7 News Sydney yelling the phrase "Allah Akbar" as he jumped on a car and continued yelling at bystanders to "shoot me in the fucking head" before being caught by members of the public, who finally restrained him by using chairs and a milk crate to hold him down.

When NSW Police arrived and arrested Nay, it was disclosed he was carrying information about terrorist attacks and extremist ideologies on a USB drive. NSW Police also said Nay didn't have any known links to terror groups, and that he acted alone.

Like Ali last year, Nay's crimes were very confronting and again played out on television screens across Australia. Likewise, the 7 News Sydney footage is also very confronting, especially regarding the emotions of the public involved who captured Nay, considering Nay's crimes and threats, all of which was witnessed by the public who were going about their normal everyday business.

Unfortunately, terrorism is becoming far too common as Australia continues to see a rise in radical Islamic extremists prepared to carry out attacks against innocent civilians, and therefore drive division between Muslims and Non-Muslims in our community. By yelling the phrase "Allah Akbar" and carrying information about terrorist attacks and extremist ideologies on a USB drive, I'm very clear, and I believe my fellow Australians are very clear that Nay was not only a terrorist, but this was also a terrorist attack.

Whilst the NSW Police said their preliminary investigations identified Nay acted alone, Philip believes we must remain ever vigilant as innocent people are again affected by individuals with an extreme ideology that's inconsistent with our Australian values.

Fear is the new paradigm that's used globally as a weapon to threaten humanity, and Philip therefore believes its incumbent on our governments, our military, security and intelligence agencies (including liaising with our allies) to ensure the safety of our citizens, our values, our way of life and to ensuring my fellow Australians are no longer threatened, intimidated or feel unsafe any longer.

Most importantly, Philip and Terri personally extend their deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to the innocent people who were injured, killed, and witnessed this terrible attack on our freedoms, democracy and our individual safety.

To the NSW Police, our brave fellow Australians, and those that risked their lives to confront, subdue and make a citizen's arrest of this terrorist, we sincerely thank you for your efforts, and to helping ensure Nay was not able to stab and kill anyone else. You're all hero's and deserve Australia's utmost respect and admiration.

Finally, to those that have criticized 7 News and their reporters for releasing the footage of Nay and his capture, it's time to take a hard look at yourselves and basically grow up. The silent majority has had enough of terrorism, the threat of terrorism and to others attempting to express their extreme ideologies and hate onto another.

"We're Australian & we look after one another."
